Interior staterooms get a view of the outdoors.

Royal Caribbean recently unveiled its plan to enhance its interior accommodations through state-of-the-art virtual balconies. With cameras mounted strategically on each side of the ship relative to the interior staterooms’ position, live video footage of the ocean and nearby destinations will stream to an 80-inch LED projection screen mounted on the wall. Now, guests who would once have been unable to watch the waves roll by from their bedroom will have real-time views of the natural beauty surrounding the ship.

Royal Caribbean President and CEO Adam Goldstein hopes the virtual balconies will redefine the interior stateroom by bringing “a completely different feel to the experience.”

The virtual balconies are one of the many “first at sea” features included on Royal Caribbean’s new ship, Quantum of the Seas, which will set sail from the New York area in Fall 2014. The virtual balconies will debut first on Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas in February 2014 after the ship undergoes an extensive revitalization to introduce new innovations.
