Wonder of the Seas Construction Update: Sea Trials

August 2021 – Four days, 1,550 nautical miles, 500 workers and the world’s largest cruise ship – Royal Caribbean’s ship Wonder of the Seas is one step closer to completion. Here’s an exclusive look at the fifth ship in the cruise line’s iconic Oasis Class successfully carrying out its first set of sea trials to ensure it’s in ship shape. A key milestone in the construction process for new ships, the trials entail pushing the ship to its limits during a series of performance tests across the propulsion, navigation, engine performance systems and much more. Debuting in March 2022, Wonder is set to build on the signature features and experiences the game-changing class of ships have touted since first revolutionizing the cruise industry more than a decade ago.

Wonder of the Seas Construction Update

August 2021 – A look at the latest update on the construction of Wonder of the Seas in Saint-Nazaire, France, at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard. Wonder will be the fifth ship in Royal Caribbean’s game-changing Oasis Class when it debuts in March 2022, building on the signature features and experiences the unmatched ships have touted since first revolutionizing the cruise industry more than a decade ago. Families and travelers of all ages can look forward to favorites and new adventures, including the renowned neighborhoods concept, the Ultimate Family Suite, complete with an in-room slide and more; immersive, interactive spaces dedicated to kids and teens; the Ultimate Abyss – the tallest slide at sea; and Italian trattoria Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar.

Oasis Class Ship to Bring New Adventures in March 2022

April 2021* – Setting sail in March 2022, Wonder of the Seas will debut in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, before heading to Barcelona and Rome to cruise the Mediterranean. Hear from the experts as they share a glimpse of the journey and what it takes to design and construct the world's newest wonder. The fifth Oasis Class ship features eight distinct neighborhoods for travelers of all ages, including the Suite Neighborhood alongside returning signature favorites Central Park, Boardwalk, Pool & Sports Zone, Youth Zone, Entertainment Place, Vitality Spa & Fitness Center and Royal Promenade.

December 2023 – *Icon Extra Teaser* For the first time since the introduction of the Royal Promenade in 1999, the vibrant, all-time favorite debuts floor-to-ceiling ocean views on Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas. Behind the architectural and engineering feat, and front and in center in the boldly reimagined neighborhood, is The Pearl. Get a look behind the scenes as the experts share what the journey was like to design and build a key structure that could support three decks and open up the neighborhood in a whole new way for vacationers, creating what is now the world’s largest kinetic art sculpture.

Making an Icon Episode 15 Teaser

Icon of the Seas Construction Highlights and Feats

November 2023 – After more than seven years of dreaming, Royal Caribbean International’s highly anticipated Icon of the Seas has become a reality. The recently completed construction of the first-of-its-kind vacation took place over the course of 900 days in Turku, Finland, starting with the first cut of steel in June 2021. Thousands involved have since accomplished a series of milestones and never-before-seen feats, like the installation of the single largest glass and steel structure to be lifted onto a cruise ship and engineering more water on board than ever before across seven pools, six record-breaking waterslides and more.
