Royal Caribbean’s Second Icon Class Ship is Officially Underway

February 2023 – And then there were two: Royal Caribbean International’s second ship in the revolutionary Icon Class is officially underway with the first cut of steel. To celebrate the initial construction milestone for the next in the lineup of the world’s best family vacations, a traditional steel-cutting ceremony was held at Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. The soon-to-be-named ship will set sail in 2025, following Icon of the Seas’ debut in January 2024.

The Next Era of Cruising is on the Horizon: Construction Starts on Icon of the Seas at Meyer Turku

June 2021 – Royal Caribbean marked the official start of construction on its first Icon Class ship at a steel-cutting ceremony in Turku, Finland on Monday, June 14. Debuting in fall 2023, the cruise line’s first of three LNG-powered (liquefied natural gas) ships will be named Icon of the Seas. With game-changing experiences and features as well as a lineup of other advanced environmental technologies, all to be revealed at a future date, the state-of-the-art ship is set to introduce a new era of cruising.

November 2022 – Following a widespread TikTok search that saw 16,000 videos submitted, Royal Caribbean has selected Wonder Mom and Pennsylvanian Marie McCrea as Wonder of the Seas’ Godmother. Nominated by her daughter, Marie is a devoted mother, wife and cancer survivor who has overcome adversity with incredible strength. She will accept the honor of blessing Wonder during a celebratory naming ceremony at its first year-round homeport of Port Canaveral, Florida, on Dec. 9, 2022.
