The South Florida-based powerhouses celebrated the new era on Royal Caribbean’s highly anticipated vacation, Icon of the Seas, with four-time Emmy award-winning host Mario Lopez and Royal Caribbean and Inter Miami executives, ownership, players, staff and fans.

December 2023 – Ahead of the debut of the highly anticipated Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International has revealed Lionel Messi – the most decorated fútbol player in history – as the official Icon of Icon. The eight-time winner of the prestigious Ballon d’Or award and TIME’s 2023 Athlete of the Year will join the naming celebration of the first-of-its-kind combination of every vacation in January 2024 in Miami. Starting Jan. 27, 2024, vacationers can experience Icon’s lineup of six record-setting waterslides, seven pools, the first neighborhood designed for families with young kids, 40-plus ways to dine and drink, and more.

Icon of the Seas Construction Highlights and Feats

November 2023 – After more than seven years of dreaming, Royal Caribbean International’s highly anticipated Icon of the Seas has become a reality. The recently completed construction of the first-of-its-kind vacation took place over the course of 900 days in Turku, Finland, starting with the first cut of steel in June 2021. Thousands involved have since accomplished a series of milestones and never-before-seen feats, like the installation of the single largest glass and steel structure to be lifted onto a cruise ship and engineering more water on board than ever before across seven pools, six record-breaking waterslides and more. February 2023 – And then there were two: Royal Caribbean International’s second ship in the revolutionary Icon Class is officially underway with the first cut of steel. To celebrate the initial construction milestone for the next in the lineup of the world’s best family vacations, a traditional steel-cutting ceremony was held at Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland. The soon-to-be-named ship will set sail in 2025, following Icon of the Seas’ debut in January 2024.

Icon of the Seas Construction Update: Floating Out for the First Time

January 2023 – The world’s best family vacation is one step closer to its highly anticipated debut in January 2024. Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas reached its next major construction milestone in December 2022. With 58 million gallons of water, five tugboats and one cannon shot, watch how the revolutionary ship was floated out of dry dock and into its outfitting pier at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, where it will complete its final stages of construction.
